Hitting the books while punching time cards

Thanks to the ever increasing costs of higher education, college students are entering the workplace like never before. (Plus, it takes dough to aspire to that glamorous ramen noodle and kd lifestyle…)

In the U.S., 54% of college students worked in 2005, along with 26% of high school students.

In Canada, 52% of students had summer jobs in 2005, compared to 47% in 1998. 39% of students worked during the 2005 school year, compared to 32% in 1998. This compares to 31% of Canadian high school students that work.

Most students (some 60%) work in one of two areas… hocking merchandise (retail and wholesale trade), or making sure that every meal has fries with that (accommodation and food services).
