Aristo-cat and Shirking Working Provide Secrets to Long Life

Our furry friends may be able to offer some interesting secrets to longevity. UK resident, Pussywillow, may well be the longest living cat in the world, still playing cat and mouse at age twenty-six.

Using up those nine lives is of no concern to Pussywillow, who survived the cat-astrophy of a fox attack four years ago. Since then, this outdoor advo-cat still leads an active lifestyle but has picked up a cat-nap habit. Her favourite activities include absorbing heat from the woodstove and cuddling with people pals.

While drinking from the fountain of feline youth has not been noted as her source of longevity, eating organically may be the secret. Pussywillow survived for over twenty-two years by catching her own food, including local vermin and rodents. Only in the past four years has the cool kitty received any happy helpings from owner Lin Brown.

Other documented fat-cats have lived for more than thirty years, likely due to regular feedings of catnip, excellent kitty hygiene and lots of catty behavior.

Other major players in the animal kingdom have challenged their destiny by out-living all others. Harriet the giant turtle lived to the age of 175 before swimming off to cloud nine in 2006. This longtime Galapagos resident traveled extensively, but lived a relaxing lifestyle after her last move to the Australia Zoo.

Harriet's top tortoise tips for those who seek longevity include a vegetarian diet, liberal sexual activities and a good balance between sun and shade.

We don’t always have to look to the beastly behavior of our animal friends to find out the secrets to endurance. Look no farther than Jeanne Calment for some human health tips on cheating death. The French record-holder for longest living human reached the age of 122.5 before parting for paradise.

Jean's lengthy life was fueled by an active lifestyle. Plenty of French wine may have also contributed to her ancient existence. Shirking on working may be another solution to avoiding that pesky Grim Reaper, as Jeanne never formally worked a day in her life.

Aging experts agree that good health and relaxation are important in order to beat the clock. Sharon O'Brien, authority on Senior living, suggests forgetting about age in terms of numbers and focusing on the quality of each year lived. Staying positive and continually learning are also ways to remain mentally youthful. Travel and social activities are also linked to longevity.

Seasoned species like the cat and the giant turtle may have the pedigree to survive certain death, but while the fountain of youth remains undiscovered, the cat-scratch fever will one day infect us all. Until then, take it easy and consider working less!
