Happy Worker is searching for a new teammate who will be the “glue” in our busy office. We’re looking for a self-starter and master organizer, with a professional-yet-fun attitude. They’ll bring happiness, bucketfuls of passion, careful organization, and proactive energy to all that we do.

“Regular” Duties

Happy Worker is a small entrepreneurial team... there’s more to do than we have time for! The Happy Office Assistant will lighten the team’s workload and help our office run more smoothly.

The new teammate will be responsible for: 

  • Reception: Greet office visitors, receive deliveries, answer phones and emails, and turn each person they meet and interact with into the happiest worker possible!
  • Bookkeeping: Support bookkeepers and accountants by organizing receipts, validating, data entry, managing paperwork, scanning, filing, and shredding
  • Purchasing: Handle all purchases, invoicing, keep our snack and tea bar stocked, and work with existing vendors to ensure we're receiving cost effective pricing
  • Organization: Keep our office tidy and organized by cataloging prototypes, organizing toy samples, cleaning, digital and paper filing, and handling waste management (aka takin’ out the trash!)
  • Shipping: Pack and set up multiple courier shipments each week
  • Writing: Author personal thank you letters, emails, client documents, meeting notes, web pages, and help proof/edit
  • Project Support: Assist whenever an extra hand is needed on projects throughout the office, collaborating with teammates and external partners/vendors, meeting timelines and budgets
  • Displays: Set up and maintain toy and prototype displays at our happy HQ and at events
  • Event Coordination: Support, lead and coordinate different events and conventions
  • Travel Coordination: Book and manage trips, flights, hotels, etc.
  • Various Odd Tasks: Miscellaneous things that arise that may not always be the most fun, but will help you level up in character points :)

Must-Have Experience + Talents

To be considered applicants must show that they have:

  • Plenty of Work Experience: We’d appreciate seeing a resume that lists all of your previous work experiences – not just the recent positions or the ones you feel relate most to this role
  • Schooling: A post-secondary degree or diploma
  • A Passion for Details: Anal-retentive about details, with a desire to support a team by taking care of the “little picture”
  • A Love of Customer Service: A solutions-oriented people person who’s friendly + helpful in person and on the phone
  • Communication Skills: Above-average writing and speaking skills in English
  • Geek Culture: A love and appreciation for toys, collectibles, gaming, comics, and pop culture
  • Tech Savviness: Microsoft office expertise, research skills, troubleshooting, and fast typing
  • Innate Organizational Skills: A love of digital and physical organization and a passion for making spaces better
  • Experience Playing: Please let us know your favorite toy in your cover letter
  • Multitasking Ability: A quick worker who’s practiced at handling lots of to-dos, without dropping any balls
  • Comfort in Fast-paced Environments: Please tell us about your busiest work experience in your cover letter

More About the Role

  • Employment Type: This is a full time, permanent position.
  • Location: Toronto, Ontario (Downtown, at Richmond and Spadina). Our office is small, open-concept, and a little crazy
  • Start Date: The successful new team member may begin immediately, or within a couple weeks of being hired
  • Salary + Compensation: $32,000 - $35,000 depending on experience; benefits will be provided after one year
  • Office Hours: 9am – 6pm (or sometimes later) Monday to Friday. Servicing our clients well and keeping projects on-schedule often means some evening and weekend work
